Since our last update in late January, international travel has opened up dramatically.

Over the past 6 weeks, we have seen announcements every few days that another country is phasing out it’s Covid-related entry requirements with even Australia and New Zealand, who remained resolutely closed during the pandemic, now opening their doors again to future travellers.

Further, this week the UK Government has removed – effective from Friday 18 March – all travel restrictions for both vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers, for the first time since March 2020.

So, here in the UK we are now back to the ‘old normal’ at last!

At Nomadic Travel, we’ve been busy helping clients get away on their travels to take advantage of these re-opening borders and we’ve had customers returning from countries including Finland, Cyprus, Iceland, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Botswana and St Lucia reporting back with great joy about their ability to travel so freely again.

Today as I write, I received a phone call from my 18-year-old son from a trekking lodge in Namche Bazaar having been at Everest Base Camp two days ago and it was wonderful not just to hear his excited voice, but also to hear at first-hand how the local tea-houses along the trail were exalting in receiving trekkers again after two years of enforced hibernation. Travel supports some of the poorest communities on the planet and the resumption of tourism is so important to the livelihoods of so many people.

On a similar note it is worth commenting that remarkably, despite the hardship felt by the travel industry during the past few years, of the 80 or so tour operators we work with, only one is no longer trading.  The specialist companies we have chosen as our preferred suppliers have proven extremely resilient and consequently the range of trips we can offer our clients remains as broad as ever.

We hope we can help encourage, advise and support you in your travel plans in the coming months and we’ll keep you updated as more restrictions get lifted.

Best wishes,
Rob & the team
